Easy Chowchow (Chayote squash) Kootu

Ingredients :
Chayote squash (Chow chow) - 2 (peeled and cut into small cubes)
Moongdaal - 3/4th of a cup
Green chillies - 4
Grated Coconut - 2, 3 spoons
Cumin seeds - 1.5 spoons
Mustard seeds, hing, urad daal, curry leaves for seasoning
Cilantro for garnishing

Method : Wash the moong daal and add enough water to cook it. Add the squash in the daal and add enough water to cook it. Pressure cook them for 2 whistles. If your cooker is big enough, you could cook them separately too.

Meanwhile, grind coconut, greenchillies and cuminseeds with little water. In a pan, add the cooked daal and squash and add this paste and mix well. Add salt and let it boil till the raw smell goes.Season it with mustard seeds, hing, urad daal and curry leaves and garnish with cilantro. It can be served with Sambar/Rasam rice. You can also mix it with rice and have it with Thuvayal or Pappad. Tastes good with Rotis also. The squash peels can be used to prepare thuvayal.

I am going to send this to Curry Mela Hosted by Srivalli.
I am also going to send Eggplant (Kathrikkai) Gotsu to Curry Mela.
