Tofu Chutney - It's different!

My second entry to JFI - Soya

This is an healthy alternative to cocunut chutney. It is not as tasty as coconut chutney but it is quite good.

Ingredients :

1/2 pack Extra firm tofu
2 spoons channa daal
1 spoon urad daal
3 red chillies
1/2 bunch cilantro
curry leaves
mustard seeds and hing
Tamarind extract from lemon sized tamarind (It has to be thick)
Salt to taste

Method :

In little oil, pop mustard seeds and add channa daal, urad daal, redchillies, curry leaves, hing and fry till the daals are golden brown. Add the chopped cilantro and saute for another minute.
In a mixer, grind the tofu, salt and tamarind extract first and then add the daals, chilies etc, add water as required and grind coarsely. The reason do it this way is to have some texture and crunch in the chutney.

I am sending this to Ramya's Chutney Mania.

Thanks for visting, and your encouraging comments!

This recipe is very innovative! I tried tofu for the first time last month -I didn't love it. Kept expecting paneer taste, I guess!

Madhu, i read in some website long back that we can substitute coconut with grated tofu and someone had even mentioned trying chutney with it. i tried it using the coconut chutney recipe that my mom prepares and it was good :-)
