Onion Tamarind Chutney

First of all, thank you all for your wishes for my blog birthday. It really means a lot to me.

I learnt this recipe from my mom. There's nothing new there, huh? :)

I hated onion when i was a kid. I'm still not a fan of onion, but am using it quite a bit and i don't dislike it anymore. My mom used to make this chutney for idli/ and this chutney was an exception and my favorite even during the time i hated onion.

Ingredients :
Onions -2
Tamarind - small lemon sized
Red chillies - 3
Urad daal - 1 spoon
Channa daal - 1 spoon
Mustard seeds and hing for seasoning
Cilantro - 1/2 bunch (optional)
Salt to taste

Method :
Heat a non stick pan and heat 1 spoon of oil. Add mustard seeds and hing and when the mustard seeds pop, add the urad daal, channa daal and red chillies and fry till the daals are golden brown. Add chopped onion pieces and saute till they are translucent and add the chopped cilantro and saute for few seconds. Let it cool.
Add salt and tamarind extract and grind it. Yummy chutney is ready.

This is my entry for Ramya's Chutney Mania.
I am also sending Ridgegourd chutney , Chayote squash peel chutney, Tofu Chutney and Lentil Chutney to Chutney Mania
